I never miss the chance to walk around Toolonlahti, whatever the weather. On my recent visit to Helsinki in summer the weather was less than perfect. It was cold and raining, but in a brief gap between showers I headed off on my walk and was rewarded with several beautiful bird sightings, including these gorgeous barnacle geese with their babies.
I don’t know what the other birds are but they are very cute.
This one decided to take a little nap.
There was a lone duckling out for a swim.
This one was tired too.
There were a couple of swans on the water for the afternoon.
It is great to see so much wildlife so close to a big city. The birds are quite tame and don’t seem at all bothered by people.
The next day the weather was better so I went back. There were no babies, I hope they were asleep in their nests. The adult birds were practising standing on one leg.
Others were resting.
And this one was preening.
I hope those goslings were OK. I would like to see them on my next trip to Helsinki.

I’m beginning to wonder if a Helsinki stopover is your secret to no jet lag! Looks gorgeous.
Could be….I love my stopovers in Helsinki.
Those fluffy chicks are adorable. Beautiful photographs.
Beautiful pictures as always, thank you! Always interesting to learn how a visitor sees your hometown. And Helsinki looks pretty in your pictures.
Yes in summer Helsinki you can’t avoid birds, big or small. They are a part of the city, though the big seaguls can be a bit scary sometimes, they sure know how to steal your ice cream…
Actually thosee geese are Barnacle geese, they are newcomers in town. For some reason they enjoy the city life too these days.
Thank you for the correction on the geese, they are beautiful birds. The seagulls are indeed huge, much bigger than our Australian ones. I think Helsinki is a gorgeous city. I travel there about 4 times a year and discover something new and interesting each time.
Beautiful pictures! They are just so cute and appealing…
Babies are always gorgeous.
