Helsinki harbour is beautiful, perfect for a boat trip to Porvoo on the Runeberg.
We sailed out on a gorgeous morning, a little hazy, but great anyway.
We glided past Suomenlinna.
…past King’s Gate.
…and along the coast.
We arrived at the entrance to Porvoo.
Porvoo will be the subject of the next post…it is a wonderful historical town.

When I was in Helsinki in mid winter much of the harbour was frozen. These red buoys were sitting patiently waiting for the summer, and their boats to arrive.
It all looks so different in summer.
Each season has its own beauty.

There was no snow when I was in Helsinki in early January and the harbour was not frozen. I was up early as usual and I walked down to the sea to watch the sun rise.
It was a different story a year earlier when the harbour was frozen. Click here to see a sunrise in 2013.

I spotted this beer bottle when I was beside the harbour at sunrise.
I can’t imagine how it got there…on the ice in the harbour.
It was still there the next day, but the ice was beginning to break up, so I think it probably sank soon after this photo was taken.
