A beautiful new sculpture has arrived in Helsinki. Laulupuut….The Song Trees, has been erected in front of the music centre.
The sculpture is by Oulu artist Reijo Hukkanen and is an impressive 13 metres high. It was inspired by a poem by Aaro Hellaakoski. While I was admiring the sculpture I met a delightful Helsinki resident who told me the poem was about a pike that rose from the sea and began to sing. The song was so beautiful birds in the trees stopped singing.
The pike is the most impressive part of the sculpture.
It is surrounded by stacks of logs and grand piano lids.
I think it is an excellent addition to Helsinki.
There is also a new cafe at the Music Centre.
It looks good from the inside too.
I had a very good coffee and a snack there.
I’m sure the precinct is going to be popular with locals and tourists.
This is a very impressive sculpture! Great pictures and thanks for posting!
I was very impressed when I was there last week. I’m sure it is going to be a success in Helsinki.
Great sculpture, I can see where it might cause many to visit the area. It looks very impressive!
I think it is wonderful. It will be something I visit each time I go to Helsinki.
I will add it to my bucket list!
Helsinki is a great place to visit.
Really cool and beautiful!
I was really happy to meet the lovely lady who told me all about the sculpture.
What an impressive complex, right down to the snacks…. Thanks Debra!
Snacks are a necessary part of any visit.
